The challenge for myself in my work is to present my ideas through a unique interaction of materials, content and form. The materials are manipulated so as to appear to have opposite innate qualities. For example: hard surfaces appear soft and soft surfaces appear hard. Or conceptually, the shallow and banal become intellectually stimulating.

Much of my work involves itself in the concept that the material world exists as a mirror reflection of the spiritual world. The concept has evolved and branched out to reflect other modes of perceiving reality. For example, a mirror reflects an image that is the opposite of its original. Likewise, truth might be the opposite of what is presented and perceived. Thus, someone’s words may actually mean their opposite, hardship may be a blessing, and a little may be a lot.
The work also symbolically incorporates certain colloquialisms descriptive of the conceptual intent. Commercial consumer products are reconstructed as metaphors for the beliefs and attitudes prevalent in western societies. As such, they begin to address, in an ironic way, contemporary attitudes towards such things as: gender roles, materialism, and social and economic disparity.

Art reflects the values of a society and bridges the divide between the familiar and the unfamiliar. The creative process and product are invested with the power to elevate consciousness, encourage personal investigation of truth and assist in the advancement of a unified world society.
